Troops loyal to Gaddafi drove eastward on 30 March toward the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in the north-east of the country, as the rebels also abandoned Ajdabiya, located north-east of Brega and about 150 kilometres from Benghazi. Rebel forces were returning to the Libyan city of Brega on 31 March after fleeing the previous day, the Al Arabiya news channel reported. Opposition website Libya al-Youm also reported that rebels had ambushed Gaddafi’s brigades in the northern villages of Bashar and Uqayla.
